In Israel, the word ‘shalom’ is an ordinary, everyday form of greeting. It can be heard in the streets, shops, markets, schools, colleges, workplaces; it is used freely by everyone. In simple translation it means ‘peace’, but it can also mean ‘be safe’, referring to mind, body, or estate. It is, in fact, a remarkable word because there are ideas of health, happiness, prosperity, friendship, safety, rest and wholeness tucked away in it.
Yahweh, revealed to Gideon as ‘Yahweh Shalom’ [Judges 6:24], later disclosed that His Son would be known as the ‘Prince of Shalom’ [Isaiah 9:6]. Yahweh Shalom is our Father and in Him, for us, are health, happiness, prosperity, friendship, safety, rest, and wholeness. We have access to this through our Prince of Shalom. The journey of life will throw up many needs, some which are obvious, and some which are obscure. However, all we need is available through Yahshua. The apostle Peter urges us to give all our worries to Him, stating, “You can throw the whole weight of your anxieties upon him, for you are his personal concern” [1 Peter 5:7, J. B. Phillips NT].
Most of us have hidden needs; these are the more obscure problems, the things we bury, hide, or suppress. Deep inside we may have areas of smothered pain which then become responsible for unexpected outbursts of anger, periods of depression, bewildering reactions, surprising prejudices, or personal hang-ups. The Prince of Peace wants to help us identify these problems so He can lead us into wholeness and health. Yahweh said to Moses, “Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh [I am/will be what I am/will be]” [Exodus 3:14, Complete Jewish Bible]. Literally this means, ‘I will become whatsoever I will become’ and we understand Him to be saying that what He will be is determined by the needs of His People.
Wholeness and peace are part of our birth right as believers in Yahshua. Purchased on Calvary at immense cost, they are offered to us freely! As we continue to walk with Him, to grow more into His image, so we will be enriched by His Shalom and all that it means.

If you feel that your life is in a rut. If you feel trapped by anything that you can’t seem to get out of. [Yahweh] is the [Elohim] of wonderful change. He will release you, whom the Son sets free is free indeed.
