Betwixt And Between

Thought For The Week 346 By Val Warsop

During my lifetime there has been an extraordinary advance of technology.  As a keen amateur photographer, I have been fascinated by the developments in photography that have opened up my Father’s creation in previously unimaginable ways! Our natural world is an awe-inspiring, exceedingly beautiful place.  The more I learn of the interdependent, resourcefulness of life, the more I wonder at the unique, creative immensity of Yahshua, through whom “all things were made” and without whom “nothing was made that was made” [John 1:3, NKJV].

Over recent decades technology has shown us hidden treasures, beautiful colours, and unusual practices in the depths of the ocean and obscure places of the earth. We have wondered at astonishing, secret, lifestyles of insects so tiny they are only visible through microscopic lenses.  When my heart lifts in awe and wonder at the revelations, it inevitably cries, “and for Thy pleasure they are, and were created” [Revelation 4:11, italics added].

Scientists tell us we are slowly nibbling away at the precise balance of our ecosystem, our selfish thoughtlessness inexorably destroying the careful design which ensures the continuation of life. “Sin has obscenely scarred and defaced this world,” writes A.W. Tozer, “taking away its harmony and symmetry and beauty.”  Stating that this is the negative, he goes on to thank Yahweh for the “positive promise and prospect that heaven is the place of all loveliness, all harmony and beauty.”  When we think of the breathtaking magnificence of different places in the world, it’s overwhelming to try and imagine more!  And yet such is the expectation of those who believe in Yahshua and have received His gift of eternal life.  How blessed and privileged we are!

With a sudden, unexpected burst of realism, Tozer warns, “If you love beautiful things you had better stay out of hell, for hell will be the quintessence of all that is morally ugly and obscene.  Hell will be the ugliest place in all of creation!”  Earth lies between the ugliness of hell and the beauty of heaven, and we experience those extremes often. When things are bad, let’s hold onto the glorious promise of a superb, inconceivable future for eternity!
