Yahweh, King of kings, Creator of the Universe, Ancient of Days, is exalted, glorious and omnipotent; He is definitely not human! However, we do know when He created the first man He made Him in His own ‘likeness and image’[Genesis 1:26]. The word ‘image’ is from a modern Hebrew word meaning ‘photograph’, so we know men look like Yahweh! Isn’t that awesome? In modern Hebrew, the word ‘likeness’ refers to ‘character’, which opens up a remarkable understanding about who we are and how we behave. One thing that fascinates me is the wide range of emotions of which we humans are capable. I believe we have these because He has!
As I was reading through the book of Malachi recently, I was overwhelmed by the breadth of passions and reactions described there. I saw that Yahweh gets hurt and upset, jealous, angry, and disappointed. I began to feel swamped with admiration for His honesty and faithfulness, His patience, love, forgiveness, and compassion despite His emotional pain. He is beyond amazing!
The Bible reverberates with glorious times of holiness, exaltation, victory, joy, and worship. Equally, it pulsates with records of sin, anarchy, disappointment, and failure. Humanity has blessed Him, infuriated Him, worshipped Him, frustrated Him, loved Him, and ignored Him throughout history. Through it all Yahweh remains steadfastly faithful to His creation and His plans. He never changes [Malachi 3:6]!
One of the most incredible things Yahweh did was send His beloved Son, Yahshua, to this earth as a ransom to redeem a lost race; people enslaved by sin and wickedness. It is astonishing to read it actually pleased Yahweh to crush Him and cause Him to suffer, so He could be an offering for our sin [Isaiah 53:10]. Through Yahshua we can obtain a wonderful gift of new [and eternal] life, if we come to Him in sorrow and receive His forgiveness for our sins. We will also find, even in the 21st century, Yahweh is still kind and caring, still present to help and support us whenever we turn to Him! And that is beyond amazing!
