Challenge Your Mountain

Thought For The Week 330 By Val Warsop

Yahshua made some mind-blowing statements, frequently challenging us to an ultimate degree.  One of these was, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move” [Matthew 17:20].  But then, He also did some mind-blowing things: like commanding the wind and sea to obey Him, and a fish to provide His tax money!  Was Yahshua literally taking His Father at His word?  Through Isaiah, Yahweh had said, “…concerning the work of My hands command ye Me [Isaiah 45:11, KJ21, italics added].  Yahshua would have been very familiar with this scripture, simply taking it at face value!  He surely remembered times when others did the same.  Joshua commanded the sun to stand still [Joshua 10:12-13], and Elijah stopped the rain in Israel for more than three years [1 Kings 17:1].

Reflecting on this, F.B. Meyer wrote, “Think how often [Yahshua], during His earthly ministry, put others in a position to command Him.”  He mentions the time Yahshua and His disciples were leaving Jericho when two blind men called out to Him and He responded, “What do you want me to do for you” [Matthew 20:32]?  “It was as though He said, ‘I am yours to command’”, writes Meyer, concluding, “Could we ever forget how [Yahshua] yielded the key to His resources to the Greek woman from Syrian Phoenicia because of her reply to Him?  In effect, He told her to help herself to all that she needed” [see Mark 7:24-30].

These are intriguing facts, which should challenge us to consider our own relationship to our heavenly Father.  Do I have such a confident approach in prayer as Yahshua enjoyed?  There are times in life when we face a ‘mountain’; something that looms before us, seemingly unmanageable or immovable.  Is it possible for our human minds to fully grasp the fact that the resources of heaven are ours to command?  Faith, as a supernatural, divine energy, is the faith we live by.  Yahweh is its source, and it can only be increased as we continually return to Him in humility for renewal and growth; and learn to challenge our mountains.
