In his letter to the Romans the apostle Paul lists a catalogue of woes and troubles that would faze most of us and then announces that through Yahshua we can be ‘more than’ conquerors! (Romans 8: 35-37) Have you ever wondered how it would feel to be ‘more than a conqueror’ in the everyday journey of living? Not just a victor but a ‘more than’ champion! This doesn’t mean we’ll never have problems, in fact the very word indicates that there will be difficulties! The picture of the eagle using the fierceness of the storm to help him soar, demonstrates how the fierceness of our own life storms can teach us to rise to high places in Yahweh.
I am reminded that Yahweh said to Israel, “You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.” (Exodus 19:4) All the violence and ferocious punishments of Pharaoh, that screamed around Israel like a terrifying storm, and were planned to make them cower in defeat, Yahweh turned into soaring liberty; they were more than conquerors!
For the apostle Paul this idea flowed naturally from his earlier statement that ‘all things work together for good…’ (Romans 8:28) because it’s totally connected! I marvel at the way Yahweh takes all that comes into our lives, working it into His purposes to bring about the very best for us. And, if we can believe it, He will use all those things to pave our way to the very gates of eternity and into His glorious presence.
…those who hope in [Yahweh] will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
