Lessons From The Kitchen

Thought For The Week 231 By Val Warsop

Passover was approaching, and I had been spending time in my kitchen cleaning out cupboards and drawers, chasing breadcrumbs, winkling out leaven, and generally making things shine.  A final deep clean added sparkle, and I sighed with satisfaction.  I knew, however, there was a major problem hidden away from a casual observer; my old fridge-freezer was in dire need of a complete defrost. A job I was looking forward to tackling!

On the appointed day my kitchen went from sparkling to chaotic as I emptied the fridge and got to work.  I didn’t mind about the chaos, I had the result in mind!  As I worked, I began to think about salvation, and of how much joy and satisfaction Yahshua must derive from lives that have been cleansed from sin, from hearts that have turned to Him in trust, from transformations that He paid for!  I wondered if He experienced satisfaction as lives began to ‘sparkle’.   Inevitably my thoughts turned towards those hidden problems we all have, those places where we hide away our heartaches, our pain, and our deepest needs.  As I mused, I realised, for the first time, how Yahshua must look forward to being allowed to ‘defrost’ us!  If the process of ‘sorting us out’ produces a temporary chaos He is unperturbed, for He has the result in mind.

Has your life ever gone from sparkle to chaos in what seems to be a twinkling of an eye?  In my kitchen I switched off the power, opened the fridge door, hauled out the freezer drawers and got down to business.  At difficult times in my life I have felt as though my spiritual connection has been cut, my personal problems hauled out for inspection, and ‘stuff’ I didn’t know was still clinging to me, has been exposed for a ‘defrost’.  Sparkle to chaos in a twinkling!  It’s never easy when Yahshua programmes a clean-up, but we can be sure that He knows what He’s doing.

After the defrost, I reconnected the power and listened with contentment to the resultant hum; mission accomplished.  Do you feel as though life is chaotic just now?  It’s temporary, and in His time, you will find that life, once more, begins to ‘hum’!
