My mother believed emphatically that since, as believers in Yahshua, we are Spiritual people, so everything we do is Spiritual! Despite growing up with that idea I had a hard time accepting it. On one hand there are the limitations and weaknesses of the human side of me and on the other there is the sharp contrast of life in the Spirit; a place where I enjoy a higher life, walk in holiness, possess heavenly status and have intimate fellowship with Yahshua. How can there not be a divide? How can there not be a ‘Spiritual’ and a ‘natural’ side to life?
In fact my mother was right! The scriptures don’t support what is sometimes described as ‘the sacred-secular dilemma’. Yahshua, who spent the bulk of His life in His home town and His father’s carpentry shop, said of Yahweh, “I always do what pleases Him.” [John 8:29] I cannot believe this only refers to the comparatively short time of His public ministry. He always pleased His Father! No divide! No ‘two worlds’! His offering at Calvary was of His total life, and it was accepted by Yahweh as a perfect sacrifice.
I have learned that the complexities of humanity and Spirituality are blended in us as we continually yield to the Holy Spirit and as Mum used to say, “Everything we do is Spiritual.” It does take faith to offer all our daily acts to Him and believe He accepts them; it does take faith to find Him in all that humdrum, normal stuff but it’s a wonderful way to live!
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for [Yahshua], not for human masters
