I have known Yahshua all my life, and have learned it is of utmost importance to cultivate a steady, ever-growing relationship with Him. He is a constant delight, able to relate to us through all the changing times of our lives, and to regularly surprise and delight us with glimpses of Himself which we have never noticed before.
One day Yahshua asked His disciples, “Who do people say that I am” [Matthew 16:13-14]? Reflecting on this question, J. Oswald Sanders writes, “Their reply was a startling commentary on the variety and versatility of His character, personality and ministry”. I was fascinated by this statement, musing on it with pleasure, considering the diversity of ways Yahshua has made Himself real to me over the years. It was one of those ‘unnoticed’ things which give such joy.
Yahshua went on to ask the most pertinent question of all, “Who do you say that I am” [v15]? Peter’s reply lit Yahshua up, for His friend recognised Him as both Messiah and Yahweh’s Son. What a thrilling time that must have been. When we first come to Yahshua we know Him as our Saviour, the One Who gave Himself so we might be forgiven for all the wrong we have done, and Who gives us a fresh, new life filled with peace and hope. This is only the beginning! He wants us to build a quality relationship together, which includes taking time to fellowship with Him, and necessitates including Him in all the important decisions we make. We must ensure He is a vital part of life.
Who is Yahshua to you today? How long is it since He has shown you a glimpse of Himself that you haven’t seen before? He can empathise in ways beyond perception, making Himself known in beautiful moments that will enrich you. “...you will find Him” wrote Moses, “if you look for Him with all your heart and with all your soul” [Deuteronomy 4:29]. Yahshua is never far away, skilfully taking care of all life’s details, magnificently dependable, compassionate, and loving. Are you two making a life together?
