Yahweh created time, and seasons, days and months and years, not for Himself but for us. He has no need of time, He exists in timelessness, a sphere beyond our comprehension. His dealings with us, though locked into our timescale, are actually timeless. His plans for us are “…plans for well-being and not for trouble, to give [us] a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). There are times for all of us when it’s hard to understand the way those plans seem to be leading. Let’s consider that a tiny acorn had to be swallowed up in the earth and, apparently, die there in the dark and cold, before the great tree grew in the forest.
Yahweh’s plans for us are eternal in nature and He will not be hurried. He’s not flustered by agitated, impatient humans; never ‘fussed’ by our fussiness! It’s no use struggling and begging for the premature unfolding of the divine mystery of His purpose in our lives; it won’t do! Yahweh will do what He will do and take all the time He needs, using whatever He chooses and bringing each of us to fulness in Himself. The only thing we need to be concerned about is that we are walking with Him in humility and trust.
His beautiful, long-term plans include a heavenly ‘afterward’ that is beyond all human perception. The apostle Paul declared, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard and no one’s heart has imagined all the things that [Yahweh] has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). The problems of ‘now’ will fade into insignificance when we step into His ‘afterwards’!
