In this era of impulse buying, extravagant waste, and throw-away nonchalance we hear a lot about saving the planet, recycling, supporting charity shops and so on. It’s no longer shameful to be wearing second-hand clothes, using second-hand furniture, or buying recycled goods. There’s even a feel-good factor attached! As a minister, I’ve spent many years ‘passing things on’ - sermons, seminars, lectures, Bible studies and much more. I’ve tried to share the wonderful things I have learned from listening, reading, observing life, and studying the Bible. As a teacher, I want to inspire people to check for themselves what I say is true. I don’t want them to have only second-hand information about Yahweh, His marvellous ways, and glorious works.
Sadly, many are content to let others to think for them and seem to base their faith on the words of their favourite preacher or close friends. A living, growing faith, however, will develop only from a personal involvement with Yahweh and His Word, the Bible. Did you know He has protected this book from annihilation multiple times? Kept it in circulation throughout the centuries by countless miracles? It is an important handbook, leading to eternal life. We should ALL be reading it regularly, studying it often, tucking pieces away in the memory banks of our hearts and minds. It’s not disloyal to check out your favourite preachers to see if their words are substantiated by Scripture. “Second-hand information,” writes Charles Spurgeon, “lacks assurance and vividness; a personal investigation is far more satisfactory and beneficial.”
You don’t have to be an intellectual or clever to study the Bible. You just need a deep desire to get to know the Author. It’s a good idea to ask Him which book HE would suggest, since He knows it best. Or if you have heard something interesting, check it out; are there any more references on the subject? Learn which parts of the Book you can read for joy and pleasure; discover which parts make you want to be still, and cherish those which make you stop and think about Him.

If you feel that your life is in a rut. If you feel trapped by anything that you can’t seem to get out of. [Yahweh] is the [Elohim] of wonderful change. He will release you, whom the Son sets free is free indeed.
