I am frequently awed by the fact that Yahweh Who is so unique in every sense of the word, Who is so ‘altogether other’ than anything we have experienced, allows me to know His Presence. Last week I wrote about His Presence being guaranteed in His Sabbath Day and the joy of discovering that week by week. Finding Him in the times I spend in worship and praise with my brothers and sisters is yet another way of knowing and enjoying His Presence ‘in the now’!
Any possible statement that we could make about Yahweh will only tell us something of His goodness or His greatness, of His works or His ways; something about His manifold virtues. We have neither the words nor the understanding to express Who He is. He is a Being Whose attributes and greatness are beyond our powers of understanding or even thought. Yet it is also true that He Who ‘…sits enthroned above the circle of the earth’ can equally relate to me where I am and assault my senses and charm my heart; it is beyond comprehension but lastingly precious.
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers.
