In Jeremiah 7:9-10 Yahweh condemns Israel for living sinful lives – stealing, murdering, committing adultery, perjury – and for following ‘other gods’ yet still turning up at the Temple to worship Him. It sounds outrageous – it was outrageous! But I’m checked in my spirit as I consider that these were His people to whom He spoke; and I’m challenged about my own conduct.
How are my behaviour and my lifestyle in between ‘turning up’ for Sabbath services? Do they bear examination? Am I living above sin? Astonishingly Yahshua taught that lust is equal to adultery (Matthew 5:28). The apostle John taught that hating a brother or sister is equivalent to murder (1 John 3:15). The requirements of the New Covenant are exacting. How do I rate? Am I ‘worshipping’ at the altars of this world; committing idolatry at the consuming round of greed, consumerism, celebrity lifestyles, social networking, computer games, movies, music streaming, online addictions, or other fascinations?
We live in serious times! We have to learn how to live in the world without the world living in us; we need to learn how to divide our needs from our wants; we need to practice setting our hearts and minds on Yahshua so that when we come before Him, either in the everyday or in corporate worship, there is nothing between. Yahweh wants His people to worship Him in spirit and in truth and Yahshua provided everything necessary for us to do just that!
Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you.
