Making Friends with my Bible!

Use a Modern Translation
One that you understand but which also keeps the meaning of the original language.

Don’t rush, read slowly
Think about what you are reading, Quality not Quantity! Read it more than once. Better to understand one verse than forget lots!

Pray first!
Ask Yahshua to speak to you, maybe pray “Help me to learn more about you”.

Don’t do ‘Lucky Dip’
Don’t open it at random and expect to have all your problems solved! Don’t try to read it from cover to cover straightaway! Use a guide or life files to help you!

Read it regularly
Just like food and exercise-little and often! Set a daily routine if you can-read, and think about a passage! There is no one RIGHT way-it’s up to you!

Don’t feel guilty if you miss a day
Everyone does! Not so important to have a daily dose every 24 hrs, but to learn something - take iin its message.

Ask yourself a lot of questions
Find out what it is saying rather than invent a meaning! Use a guide to help you remember things to look for!

Don’t get put off when you have a boring week or more!
Everyone does! Just keep going! You’re probably learning/taking in more than you think!

Read it responsibly
Reading the bible daily is only a means to an end! It is important to understand more about Yahshua/Yahweh! It’s not how much you read but what you do with what you learn! Once we know what Yahshua wants from us, we can either act or ignore.

Don’t worry if you don’t understand something
Get help if you don’t know or understand! Use a dictionary, concordance, commentary, or ask a friend or your youth leader.
