Being a member of anything is not much use if you don't play an active part in the thing you are a member of.
Anthony Delaney writes: "We talk about being members of a snooker club or a gym, or paying dues, or getting to vote because our names are on a list. We think of membership in terms of our privileges. But the biblical idea of membership is not about signing into some cold institution, but being a vital part of a living, warm body! Any part that's detached from the body won't just miss out on being what it was made to be and doing what it was made to do, it will shrivel - and die!"
This is a sobering thought. Paul uses the metaphor of the church as a body. We know what happens when a part of the body is separated from the rest of it. That is not something we should be willing to happen to us or to others.
In part one of this article we looked at five 'lifestyle statements' which the Congregation of Yahweh believes its members should live out. We'll conclude by looking at five more. If we practise these things, we will cooperate with the Holy Spirit in breathing His life into us.
Yahshua said, “I am the Vine, you are the branches. If you abide in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; but apart from me you can do nothing” - John 15:5.
We believe the only way possible for believers to live the life of Yahshua is by Yahweh’s power within us. So we seek to practise a daily dependence on Yahweh’s Spirit to enable us to do what is right. (See Philippians 2:13; Ephesians 5:18)
“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” - 1 Peter 3:15.
It is the responsibility of every believer to share the Good News with those whom Yahweh brings us into contact. We practise personal evangelism (sharing the message about Yahshua to non-believers) and inviting friends to our services.
Yahshua said, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me. . . This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you” - Luke 22:19-20. Yahshua called on His followers to remember Him, His death and the establishment of the New Covenant in the breaking of bread. Believers are invited to participate in this ordinance.
“By the seventh day Yahweh had fi nished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh
day he rested from all his work. And Yahweh blessed the seventh day and made it holy,
because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done” - Genesis 2:2-3.
“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy” - Exodus20:8.
As a congregation we observe the seventh day Sabbath which Yahweh instituted at
creation for the purpose of rest, fellowship and worship for the benefit of the human family.
As one of the ten commandments, Yahweh asks us to remember and to keep this day
holy. At CoY this is our practice: we gather on this day for corporate worship, fellowship
(See Luke 4:16; Acts 16:13, 17:2, 18:4)
The feast days outlined in Leviticus 23 were appointed by Yahweh and are of perpetual
duration, to be celebrated and enjoyed.
For just as each of us has one body with many members...
