The UK was stunned last week by the announcement of the death of our Sovereign Lady, Queen Elizabeth II. As we began to mourn her loss, we were, nonetheless, confident in the knowledge that she was with her Saviour. Her faith was a steadfast beacon throughout her life, acknowledged before the nation, and demonstrated during a lifetime of service. She was a gracious woman of great courage, righteous values, warmth and love; a remarkable example.
As I pondered her passing, I found myself wondering how such a notable woman would be received in Heaven. I couldn’t picture it! Would there be a royal welcome? “Oh, yes,” whispered a voice in my heart. “All Yahweh’s faithful ones receive a royal welcome!” I knew immediately the Holy Spirit was speaking; I was filled with warmth and joy! It seems there are no favourites in Heaven, but we knew that, didn’t we? Sometimes we need to be reminded.
The apostle Paul, facing his own death, wrote, “The glorious fight that [Yahweh] gave me I have fought. The course that I was set I have finished, and I have kept the faith. The future for me holds the crown of righteousness which [Yahweh], the true judge, will give to those who have loved what they have seen of him” [2 Timothy 4:6-8; J.B. Phillips NT]. Everyone is given ‘a glorious fight’ and a ‘set course’, and Yahweh provides everything we need to finish our course and keep the faith [see 2 Peter 1:3]. For all who are faithful there is a crown of righteousness. I wonder what it will be like? We have no way of knowing, but crowns usually denote royalty or, at least, noble birth.
We may feel like very ordinary people, yet the extraordinary truth is, because of Yahshua’s sacrifice and the free gift of eternal life, we are reborn into a holy family which is both royal and noble. Yahweh predestined us to be moulded into the image of Yahshua, so that His beloved Son would have siblings [Romans 8:29]; He wants His own Family. Each faithful member of this noble Family can expect a royal welcome when the course is ended!
