Our world is vibrating with shock; anxiety and fear sweep across the nations as we watch events unfolding in the Ukraine. “Why is Yahweh allowing this to happen?” asked a confused friend. “Is this the beginning of the end?” cried another. “Where are we in the Divine timetable?” wonders my own heart. There are many ways to answer these questions, innumerable avenues of discussion, but no precise answers. Yahweh gave humanity the right to choose, a free will, and He seldom violates that right; and He never explains!
A place of refuge and peace is to be found in trusting Yahweh. His greatness is beyond our understanding! “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his faithful love toward those who fear him,” sings the psalmist [Psalm 103:11]. “His greatness, power, wisdom, holiness, grace, love - all are far above that which we can grasp or understand,” writes Andrew Murray. Whilst the apostle Paul adds, “Oh, the depth of the riches and the wisdom and the knowledge of [Yahweh]! How unsearchable his judgments and untraceable his ways” [Romans 11:33]!
As we steadily focus our thoughts on Yahweh, peace, respect, and a stillness of reverent awe will begin to fill our hearts. We may not understand Him, but we can surely trust Him! Meditate on His wonders, consider His glory, remember His faithfulness throughout your life, and allow your heart to find rest in Him. It isn’t disrespectful to the people of the Ukraine and Russia to look to Yahweh for personal peace; in fact, you’ll find as you concentrate on His greatness you’ll be released in praise and prayer! The Scriptures urge us against sinking into anxiety and despair. “Instead, glorify his mighty works, singing songs of praise. Everyone has seen these things, though only from a distance. Look, [Yahweh] is greater than we can understand” [Job 36:24-26].
We have a mighty, compassionate, loving Father whom we can trust implicitly! “And the peace of [Yahweh] [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in [Messiah Yahshua] [is yours]” [Philippians 4:7, Amplified Bible].
