Are You Valuable?

Is that a strange question?  Perhaps it should be, ‘How valuable are you?’ Either way, think about it.  How does it make you feel?  Do you have a sense of personal value?  This is not about bank balances, investments, possessions, or anything that may count as worthwhile by today’s standards. It’s about how you feel about yourself.  Throughout my years as a minister I have talked with many who struggle to understand how precious they are to Yahweh.  Men and women who weep at the thought of their personal insignificance and lack of worth.  Such pain often rises from problems in our beginnings.  Some of these are horrendous, but even those of us with good parents and loving backgrounds can writhe in the agony of self-doubt. 

Do you know why the Bible is often spoken of as the ‘Living Word’?  It’s because, no matter how often you read it, it still has the power to surprise, bless, challenge, inform and even startle you. We read something and it seems to spring off the page, we feel as though we’ve never read it before.  Have you experienced that?  Today’s generation call these ‘lightbulb moments’! 

I had one recently as I read that Yahweh “…values those who fear him, those who put their hope in his faithful love” [Psalm 147:11; Christian Standard Bible].  No extra condition! Nothing about who we are, where we’re from, how long we’ve been serving Him; it’s just about respect and trust.  Isn’t it amazing? How fabulous to know that we are valued simply because we ‘fear’ [respect, have reverence for] our Father.  I read that He is not impressed by strength or power [see verse10].  He made the mighty Universe, which continues to work because He requires it, but He values people who trust and respect Him.  How utterly beautiful.

Yahweh values you!  When you respect Him – you’re valued.  Even when we fall or make mistakes, He still values us, because we respect Him.  It’s not about achievements, it’s about loving, trusting, respectful hearts.  Since He does value us, let’s practise valuing each other and ourselves.
