Humanity began as an incredible, inventive thought in the mind of Yahweh. He created the first man in His own image, enabling a unique companionship with Himself, an intimate degree of fellowship and friendship. Because humanity was fashioned with this innate capacity to know Yahweh, the deepest need in the human heart can only be met through Him. Adam & Eve’s sin separated people from Yahweh, and since their dramatic expulsion from Eden, humans have been trying to fill the subsequent void.
There’s a deep hunger in the human heart, a ‘Yah-shaped space’ which only He can satisfy. Other satisfactions are temporary, and people need increasingly more to fill the space! I believe Yahweh programmed us with a basic desire to ‘need more’. The more one has, it seems, the more one needs! This design was to help us on a lifelong discovery of the Most High! However, when misdirected, it can, and often does, result in major obsessions – some good, some bad, and some which are pitiful.
The prophet Azariah said, “[Yahweh] is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him [inquiring for and of Him, craving Him as your soul's first necessity], He will be found by you” (2 Chronicles 15:2, Amplified Bible). We can know Yahweh in a conscious, personal awareness. He is available to be pursued, willing to be known. The impulse to pursue Him originates with Him, but the outworking of that impulse rests with us. The Bible is full of His greatness, kindness, love and righteousness, and we can find Him in His Word. We can find Him in creation, too (Psalm 19). Yahshua’s sacrifice was the price of this restored relationship, and we come to Yahweh only through Him. Growing in knowledge and understanding of Yahshua draws us even closer.
Each of us can enjoy a satisfying, exciting relationship with the Almighty simply because He IS Almighty! The profound variety of humankind is in His own nature so He can communicate with and satisfy everyone! He will meet us where we are and extend our knowledge through familiar channels of the mind, will and emotions. He is diverse enough for each of us to be delighted!
