From Ancient Times

Thought For The Week 356

The prophet Micah came from Moresheth, a village in southern Judah. He prophesied approximately 700 years before Yahshua’s birth, being a contemporary of Isaiah and Hosea.  His was an anointed, passionate voice when Israel was enjoying growing affluence, but the rich were becoming wealthy at the expense of the poor.  “A wealthy merchant class developed, and many poorer farmers found themselves at the mercy of government-supported businessmen” [Spurgeon Study Bible].  Micah spoke out strongly against this and the carelessness shown towards Yahweh’s Law.  A skilled speaker, his messages were peppered with vivid imagery and spirited language.

There are some amazing promises recorded throughout the book. For example, the first eight verses of chapter four are magnificent!  My all-time favourite, however, has to be, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times” [5:2].  Seven hundred years before His birth, Yahweh told Israel that Messiah would be born in Bethlehem!  Meticulously He watched over that word to ensure it was fulfilled; even the Roman emperor was conscripted into the plan [Luke 2:1]!

From this prophecy we understand that Yahshua existed long before He appeared in our world.  He, Himself, said, “I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, before Abraham was born, I Am” [John 8:58, Classic Amplified Bible].  Charles Spurgeon wrote, “It was from everlasting that he signed the compact with his Father, that he would pay blood for blood, wound for wound, suffering for suffering, agony for agony, and death for death on the behalf of his people; it was from everlasting that he gave up himself without a murmuring word…Pause, my soul, and wonder!”

The purposes of Yahweh were settled from the beginning. He always knew how things would end and the precise cost and heartache involved for all of us.  Yahshua paid an immense price that we might receive salvation freely, but let’s also remember that there will be hardships and trials for us before we can enter the kingdom of heaven [Acts 14:22].  Whatever you may be going through, hold steady. Yahweh always keeps His word!
