Golden Generosity

Thought For The Week 422

In the closing hours of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, my heart is warmed by thoughts of the inconceivable generosity of Yahweh.  A scripture which frequently astounds me is, “Yet it pleased [Yahweh] to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief” [Isaiah 53:10, italics added].  Salvation’s plan demanded the crucifixion of a perfect sacrifice and since Yahweh’s dear Son was the only One able to fulfil the criteria, He was pleased to ensure every detail attended to. The Romans weren’t in charge on Calvary’s mountain. Their cruelty and oppression were being used to accomplish a far greater plan, with Yahweh as Chief Executor!  Father and Son were in harmony.  A few hours earlier Yahshua had cried, “Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels” [Matthew 26:53]?  It was their united plan to accomplish our salvation - irrespective of personal heartache and cost.

The wonderful grace of Yahweh has been in existence since time began.  It’s always been operative.  “Grace always comes by [Yahshua],” writes A.W. Tozer.  “It did not come at His birth; it came in [Yahweh’s] ancient scheme.”  The sacrificial lambs in the Old Testament looked towards the crucifixion; we’re looking back to it.  Forgiveness of sin has always been connected to the shedding of pure blood.  From the beginning, Yahshua was destined to die [Genesis 3:15].

David, a young, handsome shepherd boy, was anointed King of Israel during the reign of King Saul.  He was a man after Yahweh’s own heart [1 Samuel 16:13 &13:14].  He was devout and faithful for years, until he committed adultery and murder!  Yahweh challenged David, who became deeply convicted, repenting bitterly [see Psalm 51].  The extent of Yahweh’s forgiveness is clear when He later spoke of “…my servant David, who kept my commands and followed me with all his heart, doing only what was right in my eyes” [1 Kings 14:8].  Yahweh’s forgiveness is so total He remembers our sin no more!  No backward glances, no raised eyebrow, no muttered references: total forgiveness.  Golden, gracious, glorious generosity!
