The book of Revelation, written to the seven churches in the Roman province of Asia, must surely be one of the longest letters ever! John diligently recorded everything he saw and all he was told. We are blessed, indeed, to be able to read the letter in our own language, even though some parts defy understanding! Through the centuries, men, women and countless churches have been particularly challenged by the personal nature of the individual messages in chapters 2 and 3.
Recently, I was touched by the intimacy, knowledge and understanding Yahshua showed as He spoke to His Church. He knew precisely what was happening in each place. He knew where they lived, was aware of their problems, rejoiced in their victories, corrected their failures. Yahshua never changes! The Bible records Him as “the same yesterday and today and forever” [Hebrews 13:8], so we can be sure He knows where we live, and understands what we’re going through. May I make that personal? Yahshua knows where you live and understands what you’re going through!
Our country, our world, is in turmoil. News bulletins flag up problem after problem, people complain loudly and bitterly, millions are frightened of the future, their “hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming…” [Yahshua: Luke 21:26]. Amongst all the confusion and unrest, we can know the peace of Yahweh which reassures the heart. It “transcends human understanding, [and] will keep constant guard over [our] hearts and minds as they rest in [Yahshua]” [Philippians 4:7; J.B. Phillips NT].
The Master of the Universe, Who holds the world in His hand, knows where you live and understands what you’re going through! “Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested” [Hebrews 2:18; New Living Translation]. “Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on [Yahshua]…” [Hebrews 3:1].
“Turn your eyes on Yahshua,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace!”
