Moments before Yahshua died He cried, “It is finished” [John 19:30]! A Greek scholar, expounding on the tense used here, said it implied that the work Yahshua had been sent to do was ‘completely complete, perfectly perfect’. Isn’t that beautiful? I was reminded of this as I read of Yahweh, “…his works have been finished since the foundation of the world” [Hebrews 4:3]. What an amazing statement! His work is finished! Nothing takes Yahweh by surprise, nothing can compromise His purpose, it’s already finished!
How does this dovetail into the fact that not only did Yahshua still have to come to pay the price for our sins, but that men and women are still being called into Yahweh’s service in the 21st century? I believe we’re all tools in His mighty hands, working out the fulfilment of all He has ‘finished’! Consider Yahshua! He came, was clothed with all the weakness and frailty of humanity, and had to learn obedience through suffering [Hebrews 5:8]. Every day He would have made steady choices to do His Father’s will, until He was faced with that final, devastating choice in Gethsemane [Luke 22:42]. Yahshua’s death was part of the finished work, yet He had to agree to and experience it personally. He had to be what His Father had called Him to be. He was a Shepherd, Teacher, Redeemer, Messiah; He fulfilled His calling perfectly. He was locked into the eternal, finished plan and completed His work.
It's mind-blowing that Yahweh has selected each of us, locking us into His eternal plan through our recreation in Yahshua, and allocating work which He “…prepared ahead of time for us to do” [Ephesians 2:10, Christian Standard Bible]. It’s work which is necessary in order for His finished work to be perfectly perfect, completely complete. It means that you matter more that you ever realised. Whether the prepared work is small or large, affecting few or many, your contribution [and mine] is crucial. The text message, the phone call, the smile, the prayers, the very life we lead, are all part of Yahweh’s finished work. Ponder, and continue to be faithful.
