Who is He, this amazing Being we serve? Who is He, this Creator and Father of us all? We know of Him. We read of His power, His might, His omnipotence - but who is He? Can we know Him? Only a little, and only in part! Yahweh is beyond our understanding, more complex and wonderful than we can conceive. Yet, astonishingly, He is available! If we search for Him, He allows us to find Him [Jeremiah 29:13], and finding Him we begin to know Him.
One of the great, incredible joys of serving Yahweh is that He allows more and more intimacy and knowledge the longer we search for Him. We must never give up! He’s so immeasurable in compass, were we to walk with Him for a thousand years we’d never plumb the depths of His entirety. “I thank [Yahweh] every day,” writes A.W. Tozer, “that He is bigger than my ability to comprehend.” While Ethan the Ezrahite exclaims, “For who in the skies above can compare with [Yahweh]? Who is like [Yahweh] among the heavenly beings? In the council of the holy ones [He] is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him” [Psalm 89:6-7].
Getting to know Yahweh centres around our relationship with Yahshua, He's the One who’ll introduce us. He said, “…no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him” [Matthew 11:27, italics added]. Having been introduced, I find it overwhelming that such an Almighty Being should stoop to build a relationship with me. How can this be? And yet I find when I invite Him into my day, asking Him to arrange it according to His will, things go so smoothly I find myself saying, “Doing things that way was much more sensible, thank You!” He rules the universe, controls everything according to His will, and yet is interested enough to organise my day, plan my life, and keep count of the hairs on my head.
Only in Glory will we know Him as He knows us. An expectation which is utterly thrilling, though beyond our comprehension; a promise full of joy and delight.
