Motivation For Service

Thought For The Week 370

Recently [thought 367], I wrote about the magnificent Tabernacle Yahweh instructed His people to make at the start of their journey to the Promised Land.  The blueprint drawn up by Yahweh was handed to Moses with strict instructions to build it ‘exactly like the pattern’ [Exodus 25:9].  The incredible design needed extremely specialised skills to complete it; only superior craftsmanship was acceptable.  Yahweh specifically chose and gifted the workers Himself.  Bezalel, from the tribe of Judah, was filled with Yahweh’s Spirit, and gifted with “great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts” [Exodus 31:3, italics added].  Oholiab, also specifically chosen, was a skilled gem cutter, designer and embroiderer [Exodus 38:23].  These two were at the forefront of all the work but supported by all the skilled artisans in the company.  What an atmosphere of energy, excitement, and service must have flooded the camp.

Interestingly, the scriptures teach us that there was a condition to being accepted for the building of the Tabernacle.  It wasn’t sufficient just to have the necessary skills!  “Moses summoned…every skilled person to whom [Yahweh] had given ability and who was willing to come and do the work” [Exodus 36:2, italics added].  While their wisdom and skills came from Yahweh, they needed a motivated heart for service.  What a lesson!  How often do we see those to whom great skill has been given lacking the motivated heart to serve?

Yahshua said, “I will build My church” [Matthew 16:18, emphasis added].  He selects the workers, gives the skills, has the blueprint.  His is the Voice that summons us to come and serve.  The Body of Yahshua has place for a multiplicity of skills, and everything our Emmanuel plants in His servants’ hearts is of the highest quality.  However, unless we’re willing there’s no place for us to be included in the work; it’s the required motivation for service.

THE TEMPLE
The Hand of the Master Builder
Is creating a Temple today,
Fit for the habitation
Of our wonderful Father, Yahweh.

Chorus: Part of that glorious building
I so desire to be!
Oh, Yahshua, my life I give,
Work out Your purpose in me,

He’s choosing stones from the rubble
That others would cast away,
He’s cleaning and shaping and shining,
And building His Temple today.

Each stone must fit to its neighbour;
Losing its identity,
All must become part of the blueprint
That only our Master can see.

The Temple He’s building is spotless,
Each stone must shine like pure gold,
Each heart must be yielded and humble,
Each life by Yahshua controlled.
