In every year, alongside all the blessings, there are inevitably those times of darkness, heartache, difficulty or stress. All of life is a mixture! There are storms and sunshine, rugged spots and gentle places, successes and failures and so on. It’s important to understand that knowing Yahweh and having Yahshua in our lives does not guarantee a stress-free existence, but it does guarantee divine support during the darkness. In one of King David’s dark times when he was on the run, pursued by enemies, Abigail said to him, “…the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with [Yahweh thy Elohim]…” [1 Sam. 25:29 KJV]. I’ve always been intrigued by the picture this conjures up; what a privilege to be bound into the bundle of life with Yahweh! How protected, how safe!
I believe it is important how we ‘manage’ ourselves in the differing circumstances of life. As we reflect over the year that is now drawing to a close let’s take a moment to identify our responses: do I belong to the group of people who are consistently surprised by how good life is to them, or to the group that is always bitter and resentful because life has – as they see it – withheld so much from them? Where do you fit?
We cannot dictate to Yahweh, but as we look towards a New Year let’s hold onto the fact that, whatever life may throw at us, we are in the bundle of life with Him! We can rest in His omnipotence, and we can, surely, be among those who regularly count their blessings.

We need to stop worrying about some things in life. [Yahweh] is on our side. He is behind us, with us and ahead of us.
