The Beauty Of Love

Thought For The Week 383

When Yahshua came, He brought a new understanding about love. His life radiated it, His teachings emphasised it, but His death demonstrated a richness and quality of love beyond comprehension.  Later His disciples were to teach that this love, which is both given to and expected of us was the love of the Father, Himself.   Yahweh’s love “has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us” cried Paul [Romans 5:5].  It’s a sumptuous form of love beyond anything humanity can give. This love is a hallmark of discipleship, and so important Yahshua gave us a new commandment to love each other in the same way that He loved us [John 13:34-35].  Yahshua’s love required Him to ‘lay down His life for His friends’ [see John 15:13].

We have access to the quality of love that sent Yahshua to Calvary through the power of the Holy Spirit.  His Presence in our lives will produce the fruit of love if we yield to Him; it is love beyond loving.  Am I willing to allow such love to be formed in me and flow out through me when it is capable of such demands? Yahshua cited obedience to His commands as the key to remaining in His love [John 15:10].  However, “The Spirit gives to love such a form that it contains the commands of the divine love within itself, and thus can keep His commandments without difficulty,” writes Andrew Murray.

Peter writes, “Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart” [1 Peter 1:22].  “Unfeigned, fervent love for others is the indispensable sign of true godliness” [Andrew Murray].  The apostle Paul regarded love for one another as a condition of growth, and his letters are peppered with directives towards and prayers for increased love.  His glorious love chapter concludes with, “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love” [1 Corinthians 13:13].  James describes love as the ‘royal law’ [James 2:8], so let’s celebrate Yahshua, our King of Love.
