Why Me?

Thought For The Week 331 By Val Warsop

Have you ever wondered what Yahweh sees in you that He should choose you to walk with Him and serve Him?  If so, you’re certainly not the first!  Even King David cried, “But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you” [1 Chronicles 29:14]?  The apostle Paul had an interesting concept about Yahweh’s choices. “Consider your calling,” he wrote. “Not many are wise from a human perspective, not many powerful, not many of noble birth.  Instead, [Yahweh] has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and [Yahweh] has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong.  [Yahweh] has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world—what is viewed as nothing—to bring to nothing what is viewed as something” [1 Corinthians 1:26-28]. It seems there is a plan behind the Almighty’s choice of me!  He has the whole world in His hand, with the power to choose wherever He will; and He chose me -and you!

Yahweh not only chose us, but gave us His great gift of salvation, made available through His beloved Son, and “we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from [Him] and not from us” [2 Corinthians 4:7].  “Paul sets in contrast the very ordinary vessel, as though to highlight the incongruity of such a precious treasure being housed in so commonplace a vessel…” writes J. Oswald Sanders.  Yahshua is Yahweh’s most precious jewel and for Him to display that jewel in and through us, is extraordinary! Surely our lives should reflect the awesome honour and responsibility of this.  A vessel of clay is weak and easily marred, as indeed we are!  Yet He has chosen us for the very reason that through our human weakness His own glory can be revealed.

Yahshua took upon Himself the weakness of humanity, and in the breaking of His ‘clay vessel’ light, redemption, forgiveness, and salvation blazed upon our world.  As we face the power of Yahweh upon our lives, let’s continue to yield ourselves to Him, knowing that all things are according to His will!

Pause For Thought

We need to stop worrying about some things in life. [Yahweh] is on our side. He is behind us, with us and ahead of us.
