Spending Time With Yahweh

We probably know we should spend time with Yahweh and we probably find many other things to do instead! Let’s take a brief look at some reasons we should spend time with Him.

1.  To give devotion to Yahweh

Psalm 29:2, KJV says, “Give unto [Yahweh] the glory due unto his name; worship [Yahweh] in the beauty of holiness”.  The first reason is to come and give to Yahweh, not to get from Him. Start out by saying, “Yahweh, I love You.  I want to give You my entire life.  I belong to You and I want to thank You for all You’ve ever done for me.  I worship You”.

Whenever you come to Yahweh give your devotion to Him first.  He deserves it.  The living creatures in the heavenly throne room cry out day and night, “He alone is worthy” (Revelation 4:11). There’s no one else worthy of our complete devotion except for Him.  John 4:23, NIV makes it clear that Yahweh is not only worthy of devotion but seeks worshippers who will worship Him in this way. “…the true worshippers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks”.

If you are married, your husband or wife knows you love them - but occasionally, it’s nice to hear it. Yahweh knows you love Him. He knows your heart.  He knows your thoughts. But it’s good to tell Him.

2.  To get direction from Yahweh

“Show me the path where I should go, O [Yahweh]; point out the right road for me to walk.  Lead me; teach me...” (Psalm 25:4-5, TLB). When you come to Yahweh, after you have worshipped Him, start asking Him, “What is there in my life that want me to take note of?  What direction do I need to be going in?  What goals do I need to be reaching toward?” Reflect upon your life.

Consider your way.  Proverbs 4:26, KJV says, “Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established”.  Take time to be quiet and assess your life. “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:6, KJV).

Commit your day to Him.  Psalms 37:5, TLB says, “Commit everything you do to [Yahweh].  Trust him to help you do it and he will”.  So, after you’ve worshipped Him, and you’ve spent a little time looking over the goals you have for that day, commit yourself and your day to Him. It will help you to be more flexible and not get so frustrated when things don’t go the way you think they should.

3.  To gain delight in Yahweh

“Delight yourself in [Yahweh]; and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalms 37:4, NIV).  “[Yahweh’s] presence fills me with joy and brings me pleasure” (Psalms 16:11, GNT). The source of our joy is found in Yahweh’s presence.  If you are experiencing very little joy in your life, stop and ask yourself, “How much time am I spending in His presence?”

The closer you get to Him, the more you will love Him. Consciously spend time with Him.  You don’t necessarily have to do heavy duty Bible study. You can do that another time.

4.  To grow daily like Yahshua

“For as you know him better, he will give you, through his great power, everything you need for living a truly good life: he even shares his own glory and his own goodness with us! And by that same mighty power he has given us all the other rich and wonderful blessings he promised; for instance, the promise to save us from the lust and rottenness all around us, and to give us his own character” (2 Peter 1:3-4, TLB Paraphrased). Yahweh’s purpose has always been to make us like His Son.  That’s why He uses all the things that come into our lives for our ultimate good and for His glory.  So, when you come to spend time with Yahshua, you’re going to grow more like Him.
