There are times in all our lives when the goodness of Yahweh seems shrouded by events that overtake us. We struggle to try to make sense of the darkness, the pain, the hardships, the disappointments, or the losses as life shatters around us. We wonder where Yahweh is in it all; we strive to find Him. Where is He? He is there, always with us, with unfailing compassion as consistently fresh as the morning dew. He never offered protection from life, but His Presence and protection for life. This Presence is not dependent on how we feel or even what we feel, it depends entirely upon His unchanging faithfulness and His promise.
Once when I was in a dark place of my own the Sabbath sermon ended, “During these dark times you may feel you cannot find Yahweh; always remember, He can find you.” Spoken by a prophet these words went into my heart like a blaze of light and fastened onto my spirit, not to change the situation, but to change me and to give me hope and courage. Are you in a difficult place today? Open your heart to the consolation of the faithfulness of the One who has called you, and whose compassions and faithfulness never fail!
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
