We humans are such contrary creatures, aren’t we? Have you ever felt as though Yahweh was on a ‘go slow’ in your life? Taking His time to answer prayers, sort out problems, or give you that break you know you deserve? Have you ever wanted to hurry Him along? Doing things prematurely and being impulsive are universal weaknesses and Yahweh is not afflicted by them! Recently I read that He ‘lives and moves in eternity, and every little detail in His working must be like Himself, and have in it the majesty and measured movement, as well as the accuracy and promptness of infinite wisdom.’ [Springs in the Valley, L.B. Cowman]
I had to read this several times as I tried to let the concept sink deep into my spirit. This is a description of my Father, the One who has my best interests at heart, the One who sacrificed a cherished Child for my sake, the One who has the whole world in His Hand. And I want to hurry Him along? Do I really want Him to modify His ‘infinite wisdom’ to accommodate my whims and fancies? How much do I miss by not allowing myself to Go Slow with Him? It’s the heavenly pace! Scripture assures us that not only is there a time for everything, but that He makes everything beautiful in His time! (Ecclesiastes 3:1&11) Going slow with Yahweh is actually our greatest safety; He is always worth waiting for!
