The apostle Paul wrote, “…dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for [Elohim].” (2 Corinthians 7:1) As partakers of the salvation offered by our beloved Yahshua we should be constantly moving towards an ever-increasing holiness. This involves allowing the Holy Spirit to work in our lives to change us! The ultimate goal is to be more and more like Yahshua, behaving, reacting and responding in every situation exactly as He would! How often we fall short of that high standard! And yet we should never stop striving to reach it!
There are some things which are expressly forbidden, “…anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language…” (Colossians 3:8 & Ephesians 4:31) to mention a few! The word ‘anger’ refers to the long-lasting anger of a bitter heart, while ‘rage’ speaks of the quick blaze of an inflammable temper. Such basic emotions – but forbidden! How are you doing?
The Holy Spirit will put His finger on those parts of our life that need to be changed. Will you shrug Him away with, ‘It’s just who I am!’ or will you submit to His life-changing power?
…it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks.
Luke 6:45 NRSV
