Faith is about believing – and, actually, everyone has some faith. Yahweh ensures that each of us has at least a basic measure from birth, and the exciting thing about faith is that is can grow and bloom in any trusting heart. We need faith to acknowledge that the world was created by Elohim; to accept Yahshua as our Saviour; to lay down our lives in His service; to live righteously in this world of ours. Every day and in every way, we are living by faith.
The first specific reference to faith in Yahweh’s promises is found in Genesis15:6. It comes immediately after He promises the childless Abraham that He will make his family as numerous as the stars! “Abram believed [Yahweh]”, states the scripture baldly, “and he credited it to him as righteousness”. I find this response to Abraham’s faith both heart-warming and remarkable; Yahweh graciously credited His servant with righteousness because he believed His promise! That’s fantastic! In the great ‘faith chapter’ we find a similar thought; it was the simple fact that Noah built the boat which condemned the world! (Hebrews 11:7) He built the boat because he believed the promise; and that believing produced righteousness in him as it had in Abraham.
Faith is eternal; it’s invisible, mysterious, complex, simple, thrilling…and, always, a challenge. The more we understand it the less we find we know; but as we keep believing Yahweh’s promises, so, [oh, breath-taking connection!] our beloved Father credits it to us as righteousness!
