How long is it since you thought about holiness? Or discussed it with friends? Is it a part of everyday life, or a high standard you eventually hope to attain? There was a time when I thought the words ‘holiness’ and ‘saint’ were quite scary! How do you feel about qualifying as a ‘holy saint’? Take a deep breath – because you do!
The extraordinary wonder of the power of Yahshua’s blood is that it cleanses from sin so completely that we become pure and – yes – holy! Holiness is not a demanding goal, difficult to attain and found by only a few, but a natural place where every Spiritual person should live and move. The apostle John wrote “…the blood of [Yahshua] His Son cleanses us from all sin” [1 John 1:7] This indicates an initial work and an ongoing cleansing. The Amplified Bible expands our understanding, adding: “…by erasing the stain of sin, keeping us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations.” The blood of Yahshua makes us holy and keeps us holy! It’s an integral part of our salvation.
As with every gift from Yahweh we have a personal responsibility to maintain the benefits, but don’t worry, because the apostle Peter assures us we have, In Yahshua, everything we need to live a life of holiness [2 Peter 1:3]. The apostle Paul encourages us to “…work out [our] own salvation with fear and trembling…” [Philippians 2:12] and “purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for [Yahweh]” [2 Corinthians 7:1]. These astonishing statements were made to believers, giving clear indications the work of salvation is ongoing.
How often have you felt like a failure? You did something ‘wrong’, allowed your standards to ‘slip’, felt you had ‘messed up’ badly? We slide into despair and, gleefully, the adversary encourages us to berate ourselves. Mistakes, dear one, are not failures – they’re mistakes! They can be forgiven and we can learn from them. They belong in the process of working out our own salvation and perfecting holiness.
We’re called to walk in a constantly maturing, living holiness until we meet our Saviour face-to-face.
