On the evening before He died, Yahshua said something extraordinary: “When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you” [John 14:20, New Living Translation]. I wonder how long it was before the disciples knew what He was talking about? Their minds couldn’t process the thought of His death, so the possibility of a resurrection was incomprehensible. When they were finally rejoicing in His risen glory, how much longer was it before they were reminded that Yahshua was in them?
It's an incredible concept! The apostle Paul took hold of it and wanted us all to live with the assurance. “Do you not realise that [Messiah Yahshua] is in you?” he asked [2 Corinthians 13:5, italics added]. Do you believe Yahshua is in you? How confident are you? Do you live with a daily knowledge of His indwelling presence? Paul seems to think understanding the enormity of this reality requires a special revelation of Yahweh’s love and power, by which “according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that [Messiah] may dwell in your hearts through faith” [Ephesians 3:16-17, italics added, English Standard Version].
Remember, Yahshua said, “I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you!” It’s a life-changing collective! What differences would it make in my life if I truly believed this? How can I understand it? The concept is staggering. “Abiding in Yahweh,” writes Andrew Murray, “is a matter of the heart, it must be cultivated in a spirit of love.” What a helpful thought! There are times we get bogged down with the ‘logistics’ of understanding the scriptures, of trying to ‘work out’ what they mean. Yet the answer can be so simple; love and time will produce the lifestyle so highly recommended by the apostles. Let’s not feel overwhelmed by the enormity of what is expected of us but cultivate a spirit of love through fellowship and prayer. Take some time each day to remember, “Yahshua is in me!”
