Diligently Watch Yourselves!

Thought For The Week 474

Jeremiah’s prophetic ministry was heavy with admonitions and reprimands. He was called to warn Israel about the imminent and severe consequences of their many sins.  “Tell them…” said Yahweh, “Let a curse be on the man who does not obey the words of this covenant” [Jeremiah 11:3].  How seriously our Father rates His covenant and the standards He’s set out for His people.  How anguished He must have been to see the multiplicity of gods they were worshipping, and the vast array of altars burning incense to Baal [v13].  How horrified Jeremiah must’ve been to be told, “As for you, do not pray for these people” [v14].

I’m reminded that Yahshua said, “From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, even more will be expected” [Luke 12:48].  I had thought this referred to service and lifestyle, but I began to realise it’s simply about obedience!  Yahshua understood this, since He’d read the Scriptures.  Israel was in serious trouble in the time of Jeremiah because of its flagrant disobedience.  Again and again Yahweh warned them, forgave them, restored them; He is full of compassion and mercy.  I believe His lifestyle standards are linked to His desire to do us good, since it’s abundantly clear that blessings are directly connected to obedience!

In his farewell address to Israel, Joshua said, “Be very strong and continue obeying all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, so that you do not turn from it to the right or left and so that you do not associate with these nations remaining among you. Do not call on the names of their gods or make an oath to them; do not serve them or bow in worship to them…be loyal to [Yahweh]” [Joshua 23:6-8].  Echoing Moses’ instructions just before his death, this important advice is still vital today.

As we venture into 2025, let’s hold steadfastly to all we’ve learned and experienced, keeping our hearts centred on Yahshua and His righteousness. Don’t be sidetracked by the demands and playthings of this world!

Blessed is the person who places his confidence in Yahweh and does not rely on arrogant people or those who follow lies.

Pause For Thought

No matter what happens to us in this life, the word of [Yahweh] tells us that [Yahweh] is for us, not against us.
