The idea is ludicrous, of course, and it made me smile! He has an impeccable memory and forgets nothing. Now wait a minute…what about my sin? Isn’t that thrown into ‘the sea of forgetfulness’? Absolutely, that’s what the Bible says – but it never tells us that Yahweh forgets; only that He remembers no more. [Jeremiah 31:34] There is a subtle difference if you think about it. Surely this latter is a personal choice for Him and as such is comforting and beautiful for us, and as complete an act as my forgetting about the second shampoo.
My thoughts move to the glib advice often handed out to hurting people, “Forgive and forget…” and I consider the many hours I have spent in the counselling room with sincere people who cannot forget. I believe that Yahweh can help us to ‘remember no more’ by healing the pain of deep hurts, aching wounds and bad memories and so set us free to make that final personal choice for ourselves.
“…He has anointed Me…to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed [who are downtrodden, bruised, crushed, and broken down by calamity]…”
