I’m incredibly blessed to have had a lifelong relationship with my Saviour. I remember personal prayers and private moments with Him from the age of four. When I was in my early 30s we began using Yahshua’s Hebrew name, and addressing His Father by the holy name, Yahweh. Using this holy name was to create a new arena of experience for me, as I began to develop an increasing awareness of His Presence. The Scriptures seemed to become more alive, opening up to reveal hitherto unseen glimpses of His exalted majesty, His flawless holiness, His matchless power, His immeasurable eminence.
I believe Yahweh wants an intimate relationship with each of us, and it’s available to those who desire it. “Oh, that we might know [Yahweh]!” cried Hosea. “Let us press on to know him. He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rains in early spring” [Hosea 6:3, New Living Translation]. Through Jeremiah, Yahweh told us, “You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart” [29:13]. I’m responsible for the development of my personal relationship with Yahweh; its quality is dependent on my own diligence. “Draw near to [Yahweh] and He will draw near to you,” writes James [4:8].
Each journey is personal, but it can start by learning how to cultivate a stillness of heart and spirit before Yahweh. Do this by coming into His Presence with an awareness of who He is, and approach Him with respect and reverence. Develop a sense of the majesty and unutterable greatness of His eternal divinity; while remembering He is your Father. A stillness of heart before Yahweh isn’t simple to achieve and is individual to each seeker, but it’s infinitely worth exploring. It allows us to get to know Him in a progressively more intimate way, and our understanding of who He is will be immensely enriched.
Moses told Israel that they would find Yahweh when they sought Him with all their heart and soul [see Deuteronomy 4:29]! My search began fifty years ago. It’s a fabulous journey! One of its great mysteries is that He wants this!
