As the UK hurtles towards the general election we’ve been bombarded with so much information and misinformation, so many heady promises and damning criticisms we can surely be forgiven if our minds are spinning! Politicians, it seems, are always changing! How comforting to know Yahshua is entirely trustworthy, always has our best interests at heart, and never changes [Hebrews 13:8]. He has my vote!
In 1847, Scottish clergyman, Henry Francis Lyte wrote, “Change and decay in all around I see, Oh, Thou who changest not, abide with me.” These lines from ‘Abide with Me’, although almost 200 years old, are as pertinent today as they must have been then. We live in an ever-changing world which is experiencing the reality of Biblical prophecy being fulfilled every day. We need to be in close and constant contact with the One who never changes!
“At the centre of our unstable world,” writes Oswald Sanders, “stands the unchanging [Messiah]. All that He was in the past, He is in the present, and will be in the future.” Quite simply, Yahshua “is always the same, yesterday, today and for ever” [Hebrews 13:8, J.B. Phillips]. We can draw enormous strength, help and encouragement from these statements. Yahshua, Who combines divinity and humanity, is able to take care of all our days!
Our yesterdays may be distressed with heartache, rejection, bitterness, failure, or any of a multitude of problems. Yahshua is able to take care of those yesterdays. He can forgive our sins, cleanse our defilements, heal our brokenness, restore our lives. Don’t be haunted by the tyranny of the past!
Yahshua is present in each day as it unfolds. He cares about the problems, emergencies, heartaches, sicknesses and disturbances that fragment our lives. He will hold it all together for us, providing support, proffering change, and keeping us in peace as we learn to trust Him.
Yahweh is the One who ‘changest not’ and His faithfulness is an anchor for the future. Through Yahshua He’s taken care of every aspect. There’s no need to be afraid of life’s uncertainties, He is in control, meticulously working out the blueprint He created before time began. It’s a winning Team!
