Having personal knowledge of, and connection with, our beloved Yahshua and, through Him, of the awe-inspiring, magnificent, Most Holy Yahweh has to be an understanding that catches the breath, quickens the heartbeat and stuns the senses! It makes me want to cry with King David, “Who am I, oh, Yahweh?” How did it happen that I should know Him? It can happen because Yahweh sent Yahshua, Who died for us while we were still sinners, and offered us reconciliation and righteousness as an astonishing free gift. It did happen simply because we believed it! It’s the most amazing transaction, with incredible, eternal benefits beyond our comprehension!
The book of Hebrews constantly delights me. I love the way it ties together the practices of the Old Testament with the life of Yahshua, affirming that He fulfilled all that was written about Messiah. I love the way the writer exalts Him in the first chapter then, in the second, shows us clearly what coming to earth cost Him [Hebrews 2:9-10]. It is incredible that it was ‘entirely appropriate’ [Christian Standard Bible] for Yahweh to make Him ‘perfect through sufferings’! Commenting on this, Charles Spurgeon writes, “He did not look at sin from the distance of heaven, but he walked and lived in the midst of it. He knows all the shapes of suffering: disease, sickness, poverty, need, friendlessness, hopelessness, desertion. You cannot cast human suffering into any shape that is new to Messiah” [italics mine].
He is perfectly equipped to be our High Priest! “For we have no superhuman High Priest to whom our weaknesses are unintelligible—he himself has shared fully in all our experience of temptation, except that he never sinned” [Hebrews 4:15, J.B. Phillips]. Romans 8:34 states that He is currently seated at the right hand of Yahweh, the place of honour, and there He is interceding, praying, pleading for us! And His sympathy for, and understanding of, humanity are impeccable; He cares!
As your day unfolds and life ‘happens’, when you feel discouraged or low, when you are struggling with problems and difficulties that overwhelm you, whisper His Name. He’s only a prayer away and He ‘gets’ what you’re going through; He’s been there!
