As 2022 was ending, I was meditating on the dawning year: where would Yahweh take me? What area of my life should I be praying into? I discovered two lines from Ray Price’s song ‘How Big is God?’ bubbling in my heart. “He’s big enough to rule His mighty universe, Yet small enough to live within my heart.” As I pondered the awesome reality of these lines, I murmured, “It’s true, yet how is it possible?” I set a prayer goal for 2023: that my personal knowledge of this amazing mystery would increase and deepen, enriching my communion, and enlarging my understanding of Yahweh in me. It felt huge!
Yahshua said, “I am in the Father, and the Father in me” [John 14:11], whilst Paul prayed that Yahshua “may dwell in your hearts by faith” [Ephesians 3:17]. Paul also said, “… your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you…” [1 Corinthians 6:19]. An astonishing picture of the power which lives ‘within my heart’; confirmation this prayer goal is huge! The Holy Spirit has been opening my eyes and ears to see, notice, hear more about the immensity of Yahweh’s power, the magnificence of His creation, and the majesty of His incomprehensible infinity. And all the time, linked closely, He reminds me of His tender compassion and unfailing love for humanity.
Psalm 29 came alive recently as David tried to describe the Voice of Yahweh [vvs 3-9]. His Voice defies description – what does it sound like? David attempted to do it through creation. We hear Yahweh through His prophets, His Word, and the life of those who love Him. Yahweh is so much greater than the expression of all His servants together: immense and infinite! Infinity is incomprehensible, immeasurable, unquantifiable, and inconceivable. Yahweh fills eternity, yet lives in me! “…just as the ocean fills a bucket that has been submerged a mile down,” writes A.W. Tozer. “The bucket is full of the ocean, but the ocean also surrounds the bucket in all directions.”
In the great scheme of things, right now, I’m blessed to be just a bucket!
