My father died in 2007 after a lifetime dedicated to the service of Yahshua. He had few personal possessions to leave behind. No home of his own, no investment portfolio, no valuables, only his clothes, his books, and a small amount in the bank. But the legacy of his life was immense! It was to be found in the hearts of the people he had touched, the sermons he had preached, the doctrines he had upheld and the example of how he lived.
When Yahshua died He, too, left us a legacy, one that is immeasurable and infinite! We find it in His sermons, stories, miracles, lifestyle, and death at Calvary, as recorded by His friends and followers. We should regularly remind ourselves of this legacy! It’s vital that our view isn’t clouded by the passing of time, and we never treat lightly those things that cost Him His reputation and His life.
The legacy of Calvary is the incalculable, extraordinary power of Yahshua’s blood! It is entirely beyond our rational human comprehension! “I know no word in the bible or in human speech,” writes Andrew Murray, “that contains such mysteries.” The Bible teaches us, “The law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” [Hebrews 9:22]. When Yahshua’s blood was emptied out at Calvary, it was a one-time, sacrificial offering that procured cleansing, forgiveness and eternal redemption for all who believe.
The letters of Paul and John ring with an understanding of the victorious power of Yahshua’s blood and all it means for us. The apostles tell us we are redeemed [bought back from the evil one] and all our sins are forgiven [Ephesians 1:7]; walking in the light ensures we are continually cleansed from sin [1 John 1:7]; we are justified, made righteous and holy, sanctified, set apart to Yahweh [Romans 5:9; Hebrews 13:12]. It’s an incredible legacy, culminating in the ringing truth that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit [1 Corinthians 6:19]! Paul concludes, “You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour [Yahweh] with your bodies” [6:19-20]. Let’s remember the legacy!
