I was amused and challenged by this prayer pinned on a church notice board:
“So far today, Yahweh, I’ve done all right. I haven’t gossiped; I haven’t lost my temper; I haven’t been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish or over-indulgent. I’m very thankful for that. But in a few moments, Yahweh, I’m going to get out of bed, and from then on, I’m going to need a lot of help.”
The prayer made me chuckle, but I wonder how many of us can relate.
Yahweh said to Abraham, “Walk before Me, and be thou perfect” [Genesis 17:1], which the Classic Amplified Bible translates as “Walk and live habitually before Me and be perfect (blameless, wholehearted, complete).” Well, of course, we murmur, “Abraham was a VIP in the Bible, surely Yahweh doesn’t expect us to be so holy!” Actually, we find this standard throughout the Scriptures, and Yahshua told us, “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect” [Matthew 5:48]. He really moved the goalposts! The standards we must aim for are those demonstrated by Yahweh Himself. Does that sound impossible? Absolutely! Not one of us could even aim for it without help!
The blood of Yahshua not only cleanses us from sin, redeeming us from the enemy, but as we walk with Him, it cleanses us continually. This experience lifts us into a place of holiness. However, every experience from Yahweh must be maintained. “… let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit,” writes Paul, “perfecting holiness out of reverence for [Yahweh]” [2 Corinthians 7:1, italics added]. Each of us is expected to be intimately involved in this cultivation of personal holiness!
Paul’s instructions are serious: “…rid yourselves [completely] of all these things: anger, rage, malice, slander, and obscene (abusive, filthy, vulgar) language from your mouth” [Colossians 3:8, Classic Amplified]. “Whether or not the Christian should separate himself from the world,” concludes A.W. Tozer, “is not open to debate.”
The standard Yahshua set is high, but in Him we can find all the strength and help we need; we aren’t alone. Holiness is expected of us, and keeping our hearts pure is an ongoing commitment. Nevertheless, all the help we need is consistently available.

This Is My Friend!Blessed is the person who places his confidence in Yahweh and does not rely on arrogant people or those who follow lies.
Psalm 40:4, Names of God Bible
No matter what happens to us in this life, the word of [Yahweh] tells us that [Yahweh] is for us, not against us.
