Through The Veil

Thought For The Week 357

In the temple in Jerusalem a magnificent curtain hung between the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies.  The priests regularly ministered in the Holy Place, but only the High Priest was allowed through the curtain, and only once a year on the Day of Atonement.  Known as ‘the veil’, this curtain would have been enormous and very heavy.  It was made of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen with a design of cherubim worked into it.  When Yahshua died “the veil [of the Holy of Holies] of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom” [Matthew 27:51, Amplified Bible].  Top to bottom? Only Yahweh could have orchestrated that!

Powerfully, the Scriptures record, “we have confidence and full freedom to enter the Holy Place [the place where God dwells] by [means of] the blood of [Yahshua], by this new and living way which He initiated and opened for us through the veil [as in the Holy of Holies], that is, through His flesh” [Hebrews 10:19-20, Amplified Bible].  Until the death of Yahshua, entry into the Most Holy Place was forbidden. Yahweh had promised Israel He would meet with and speak to them from the mercy seat there [Exodus 25:22]; it was a sacred place.  The tearing of the veil showed that communication with Yahweh was now open to everyone.

“The new way, through which all believers have access to the Most holy,” writes Andrew Murray, “always goes through the torn veil, the body of [Messiah].”  Fellowship with the Most High is totally dependent on Calvary’s sacrifice, and our acceptance of all Yahshua has done.  His body was viciously torn, that we might have access to His Father through the torn veil! He opened “the only way that leads to the throne of God.  The way—the way of humility, thoughtfulness, and obedience—leads through the torn veil into the Most Holy Place, and into the presence of [Yahweh]” [Andrew Murray].

As we approach Passover Season and our thoughts turn towards Yahshua and His sacrificial death, let’s pause a moment to thank Him for His torn body which secured the immeasurable privilege of unrestricted access to Yahweh.
