Thy Will Be Done!

Thought For The Week 430

In human relationships, love changes over time.  It can grow stronger, deeper, richer as the years unfold but, sadly, can also wither and fade.  It’s the nature and essence of love and we’ve all experienced it.  Yahweh’s love, however, never changes.  Since He has no imperfection and is “eternal, immutable and perfect…there can be no improvement” [Tozer].  There’s nothing we can do that will dry up or change His love for us.  He may hate sin, but He loves the sinner and offers pardon and life change to all who turn to Him.

Nevertheless, Yahweh’s love isn’t blind!  It faces the facts.  It was His love that sent Yahshua to Calvary. It didn’t shrink from the hard task, the difficult decision, because it’s perfect love!  He allowed what was needed to accomplish His purpose, but He also needed Yahshua to be willing.  When we think about the agony of Gethsemane’s garden, the anguished prayers, the bloody sweat, the much-loved, deeply distressed Son begging, “If it is possible, let this cup pass from me…” [Matthew 26:39], do our thoughts ever turn to His Father?  What father doesn’t hurt with his hurting child and  wouldn’t willingly bear the pain if he could spare his son?  Yahweh surely felt the anguish, hurting with His Child, yearning over His distress.  “Yet it was the will of [Yahweh] to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief…” [Isaiah 53:10].  Yahshua’s victory was won in the garden, with that obedient “Nevertheless…”!  And with that victory came peace.

This doesn’t mean that Calvary didn’t hurt!  Sometimes Yahweh sends us by the hard way.  He doesn’t shrink from completing His purpose because it’s going to hurt.  He understands when we have those ‘take it away’ moments; He feels our anguish and distress. He knows every painful step and each heartbreaking minute.  He cares about the immense sacrifice when we offer our own yielding ‘nevertheless…’  He wants us to be willing to walk with Him no matter what the cost.

Yahshua taught His disciples to pray, “Your will be done…” [Matthew 6:10].  He lived His life honouring this prayer, and teaches us to do the same. Let’s bow in commitment – Your will be done!
